How can you tell if a Pet Parrot is fat?
One of my African Greys is noticeably more filled-out-looking around the breastbone than the other and has quite an appetite. I’m not sure if he’s too fat, even though he gets a high-quality pellet diet and plays on a birdie gym all day.
Does anyone know of a good method for telling if a bird is overweight?
Yes there is a method
feel around your birds body, on the front, and he may feel fat or chunky.
there is this bone in the middle of the chest if the fat around him is higher than that bone your bird is overweiight, the pellets, and fresh fruit make no difference, make your bird flap his wings and play rough to loose weight.
If the fat around your bird isnt above the bone, then he is fine african greys and amazons are naturally heavey bodied birds.
I have 2 african greys and other birds and make sure they not only get a great diet, but also flap their wings and exercise as well.
