How to secure bird cage sliding doors?
I hear that a parakeet can slide the door open from the inside and escape, so I was thinking about a cautionary step before getting one and buying clips to secure the cage.
I’m afraid if I find a regular old spring loaded clip or something then the parakeet can open just enough to slide her head out and get stuck.
What can I use to keep it shut all the way, with no gaps?
A dog leash clip will NOT work for a parakeet, the gap will allow the door to slide open just enough to allow the bird to get it’s head stuck. What I found that worked for me was a simple spring loaded pinch clothes pin. They work, cheap, easy and quick. The parakeets love to play with them and they can’t hurt themselves on them.
The bread ties rust and can cause lead poisoning, plus they can cut their wings, feet and beaks on them.
I’ve also seen people use the little girl hair bow clips on cages, but i’ve also had to extract those out of crops from birds breaking them and eating them because they are easily broken. Can’t beat the old fashion clothes pins.
