Jurong Bird Park – The Natural Beauty of Bird Life
Hosting a number of enjoyable activities and sights, Singapore is one of the rarest places on earth that make one feel as if they are on an amazing voyage. One such place where excitement and wonder awaits visitors and guests is the reputed tourist attraction, Jurong Bird Park.
The Jurong Park found fame after its recognition by the masses as the largest bird park around the globe. Launched in 1971, the park covers an area of 20.2 hectares, showcasing diverse varieties of bird life. Representing all kinds of birds of a total of 380 species, it is most famous for its Heliconia Repository which houses heliconia cultivars of an approximate of 108 species. Considered the largest collection in the region, it also features other key attractions that make the park a haven for nature lovers, especially for those who enjoy bird-watching.
The concept of creating a bird park was first conceived in hope to create a surrounding where one can escape from the realities of the urban life and simply relax in the most purest and naturalistic surroundings. Since then, the wonders witnessed at the park have reached beyond the border of Singapore to become a world famous bird park. A sanctuary for magnificent birds, ranging from different sizes, colours and types, it flaunts birds from around the world, including its 1001 flamingos. Visitors can easily have a glimpse of the flock of flamingos flittering around its lake surroundings. This landscaped park located in the Jurong Hill is managed by the Wildlife Reserves Singapore, where 29 endangered species are also showcased.
Showcasing 4600 birds, this hillside park contains more than a handful of wonderful sights to gaze at. One of its most mesmerizing views is the African Waterfall Aviary. Having more than 1500 birds within this aviary, these free flying birds originate from 50 different species. As the world’s largest aviary, visitors who walk-in are stunned and astounded by the fluttering birds, flying in different directions. Some of the birds that could be seen here are the Turacos, Hoopoe and the Golden-Breasted Starling. Situated within the aviary is the highest man-made waterfall, the Jurong Waterfalls which reaches 30 meters high. Other attractions include Lory Loft Aviary, Pelican Cove, Birds and Buddies Show, Birds of Prey Show, Flightless Birds and South East Asian Birds Aviary.
African Wetlands is another alluring sight that provides the visitors a glimpse into a balanced nature where the audience will be able to understand the intricate complexity and amazing power of nature and how it all works, blending and connecting birds and mankind. Also featured is the World of Darkness, Asia’s first nocturnal birdhouse. Here, the system of lighting is reversed so that visitors are able to see the birds in their natural habitat and demeanor. It highlights around 60 birds originating from 17 different species including Fish Owls and Night Herons. Visitors can have a leisure walk in the dark surroundings of the jungle path that is lit by starlight and hear the sudden beckons of the nocturnal birds. The Penguin Expedition is another favorite sight that pulls the strings of many hearts as when the penguins dive underwater, the visitors are given a panoramic view of the birds in all their glory.
One Singapore hotel that should be taken into consideration for those on lookout for Singapore accommodations is Raffles Hotel Singapore. This five star hotel in Singapore is located in one of the country’s most elegant surroundings. Showering its guest with impeccable services and facilities, guests staying here can easily access many opportunities of retail therapies and spa treatments.
