Cage Open

I have a new king snake and everytime I open the cage and stick my hand in to attempt to handle him he shakes?
his tail and “cocks back” as in ready to attack. It’s a very young snake so I know he needs to get used to being handle but what should I do here? Do I go ahead and try to pick him up though he obviously is angry/scared? Or how do you begin to tame the snake in general? I’ve had ball pythons before and never had this type of issue. Any help is appreciated!
I’ve been breeding kingsnakes for a while, and if a baby doesn’t act like you describe, then I’m shocked. Just about every baby kingsnake freaks out, pees on me, and often tries to bite. The way to tame them is by handling them often, which means you’re going to get peed on and possibly bitten too, but it’s not that bad. You can gently scoop it up with your hand or a snake hook, and hold it, letting it get used to you. I don’t move around much at first, so as not to scare them, and just hold them for a few minutes. I’ll gradually increase the time I hold them, and eventually they’ll act pretty laid back. It’ll just take a little patience and you should end up with a very tame snake.
